Now, before I continue, I realize that there are probably still reasons why they are better than some other consumer cards, specificaly SOME onboard audio, but they are certainly getting fewer and further between. don't believe the hype about these cards even being special for games and such anymore.

It's interesting tha you say this based on some recent happenings in audio that make Creative Labs even less relavent than they were before. SB cards are great cards for multimedia use. My advice, from someone who had their hands burned by choosing a Creative soundcard supposedly good enough for pro sound recording, is DON'T DO IT!!! Creative like to tout their soundcards as 'professional quality', and on paper they seem like all you will ever need, but for the same cost you can go to your local music store and pick up an external sound module like a Tascam, Edirol or Alesis and not only do you have zero latency and all the professional quality you need, you also have all the inputs and outputs, vol and input level controls and phatom power for if you ever decided you want a studio-quality vocal mike which requires it. Also, I found that the mic-in signal was very weak through the card, the waveform in Sonar wasn't as good as it should have been, it wasn't until I got my Tascam and recorded some vocals that I saw a larger, healthier waveform, the way it should be.
#Sound blaster x fi platinum drivers
When I was trying to work out my interference issue (it was coming through the mic input channel) they were of no help at all, they simply told me to remove and reinstall all my drivers and files which would have solved nothing. I agree with what others have written here, Soundblaster are rubbish, not to mention that their customer service and tech support are also rubbish. In the end I went and bought a Tascam US-122L, it had everything I needed and more, and cost the same anyway.

I had all sorts of interference from it, and no inputs and outputs for my headphones and mics. I had a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi soundcard and it was the pits.
